Giving 10074 a try. Still dismayed at how undeveloped the Start Menu is. They could do SO much but apparently have decided to do as little as possible. But hey, they did add the completely useless little flip animation. I'm sure there was a hue and cry from the masses for THAT gem.

And seriously MS, the BEST you can give me on a non-Metro app tile is a tiny circa 1992 icon in the middle of a gray square? That's it? Really? No artistic tendencies at all then, like making the graphic somehow fill the tile and look just a little cool as in Android Icon Packs? And when I click a tile no cool animation like on Windows Phone? Nothing then? Great. I see the Department of Boring is hiring like gangbusters.

I don't know who is in charge of the UX on the Start Menu but they need to lose their Christmas bonus.

With the many Billions of dollars at their disposal, it still amazes me that MS employs graphic designers with grade school level of experience and qualifications.

They have their work cut out for them if they want to launch Windows 10 this year still.

For the love of all things holy, you can clearly see that each disparate team has outsourced arbitrary icon and UX design elements to their kids. The TP at current build status is still a smorgasbord of unfinished elements.

Installed 074 and Cortana STILL will not work for me.

Dragon Naturally Speaking hears me but Cortana does not seem to.
She will not speak my name either, or anything else for that matter.

The little circular animation is activated but nothing else happens.

My microphone is set at 1oo% for it's level.

When I set up the microphone and test it, the green bar shoots all the way to the top but still nothing from Cortana.

I also got taken to something called Microsoft Edge when I first started up and it appears to be a NEW browser!!!

Did they decide to rename Spartan?

Project Spartan was the development name only. They announced yesterday the official name of Microsoft Edge.

Also, I just did a clean install and stuck in London again for the weather app.

I'm hoping that MS will allow 3rd party icon packs as are offered in Android so we can bling up these gawdawful looking FaceID style Start Menu tiles. Isn't there anyone at MS to tell TPTB these boring tiles suck? We either get semi-useless animations or ugly gray tiles with a tiny icon in the middle. It's called flare MS, get some.

Somebody in charge at MS really really really likes the color gray... A LOT.

"Hey guys, we have this awesome new palate in the form of these tiles to really blow the world away with. What should we do with them? Wait, I know, let's make them 80% gray! The same focus group that told us no one actually uses the Start Button also said gray was super IN this year!"

Considering MS is so deadset on ramming these tiles down our throat, don't you think they would spend 5 minutes on making them NOT SUCK?

The tablet ui is the only thing holding me back right now. They need to hide the left pane like the tablet demo at build, like yesterday.

@haidi Click on Cortana / search bar (or use Windows key), then type first few letter and snipping tool should appear.

I have not been paying attention, but not sure why non-Microsoft tiles, i.e., ESPN are not updating even after turning live tile on for each. Microsoft tiles are updated like Money and Weather.

I see what others mean about network items that require username/password. Windows doesn't recognize the name, but if I use the IP address it works. Also the new Notification center sound when an event happens like plugging in a device or an email arrives is nice.

How did you use the ip address?

You should be able to find the IPv4 address from your router setup. It should include all devices connected both wired and wireless.

Its weird because file Explorer will show it connected as a computer and in the network, but selecting it won't connect. So I have to use the IP address instead to make it connect.

Unfortunately, Microsoft still hasn't given us the means to lock down tile placement.

Why won't they let us create a group of tiles and then lock the group so nothing in the group or the group itself can be moved until we unlock it?

I hate it when the tiles get shifted round from where I had put them.

Yeah, that stuff with the IP adress instead of name sucks..... but it seems to work that way.

Just ask Cortana. It's still there. You can pin it to the start menu even though it isn't listed in the All Programs.
Cortana doesn't like to work right after a update... felt like she said "Wait What? i have no idea what you're talking about!"
It's working fine now, but it took some time.

I'm lucky i'm not in Londy... they don't seem to have that great wheater xD

P.S Seems like build 74 removed the "Fullscreen tablet mode" button in the top bar of metro apps :( i really liked that.

And Contact keeps crashing, after i added my hotmail account.

Got my ip address but don't know how to use it for logging on, feel stupid. Tried putting it in for user name and it didn't work.

1. Open file Explorer and in the top location field , or in the run window using Windows key + 'R' key (haven't tried it with Cortana/search so not sure about this method)
2. type "\\<ip_address" (for example, mine is \\192.168.1.141)
3. enter username & password when/if prompted

hope this helps...

Hi
Will windows 10 support disc image to a network attached NAS? My SP3 Pro with windows 8.1 doesn't (as far as I can tell with various Google searches anyway)

Thanks again for all the help, I tried that and it just tries to open a webpage. For now I will just have to deal with using Homegroup. It works, just slower and disconnects faster if I don't continually use it.
