New style docking station question

I'm a micro computer support specialist where I work and just gave one of the new style docking stations to one of my clients for use at home. He just emailed me back and said the new docking station I gave him was antiquated and wanted to know if we could get him one like is in his office at work.

I was just wondering if any of you have had experience with both the new and the old style and could comment on which one they like. I asked this person to let me have his new one to setup at my desk and see what is involved in setting one up and using it. I would assume that you would need to make two connections. One from the USB port on the Surface to a USB port on the dock and a power connection from the Surface to the dock, but I haven't actually set one up yet.

One connector...Surface Connector to where Power goes in and you're set, everything is in the dock (power, USB, Ethernet, 2x DP connectors). I love the new dock, I have both.

Thanks for the feedback. I expect their are pluses and minuses to each of them. I can see a plus with the new style would be it gives you the ability to set your screen angle if you use the Surface screen when your docked.

And you can use it as a tablet as well when Docked

Seriously I think my client just likes the idea (which I do too) of just dropping his Surface in the dock cradle, popping the sides closed an ready to go. Of course plugging in one cable isn't too hard either. I'm sure he's not going to connect more than one monitor.

I'm just an old fashion kind of guy gettin' ready to retire at the end of the year, after 46 years working on computers & peripherals. I think I've seen enough. Ready to hit the road and so some fulltime RVing. I might see ya out there digging in the rocks some day Colorado.

I have both kinds, since I still use a SP3 and a Surface Book.
By far, my favorite dock is the Surface Book Docking Station. The magnetic-assist connector works with either the keyboard base or the clipboard. And I sometimes use this stand with the Clipboard.
