xbox controller

I want to use an xbox controller with my Surface 3.

I need to know the exact model as I am told that not all are compatible. It does not have to be wireless, usb would be ok. I would appreciate your help, thank you.

I just have an original 360 controller for pc. works just fine. I cna't see h0y a controler designed for pc would not work on the surface.

I have used both a wired Xbox 360 controller I picked up from goodwill for two bucks and my Xbox One controller connected via USB with no issues. I played Portal 2 the other night for a couple hours. I was actually amazed how well the S3 ran it.
