As I have been saying since winrt first came out, almost all of the corporate world are still using x32 applications for everyday tasks. As much as I liked winrt concept, after getting a winrt device I found myself unable to do the most basic tasks with our LOB software.
Did MS really expect corporations to have software companies compile separate apps for ARM compatibility?
So, without support of the corporate culture, winrt inevitably fell down the rabbit hole of just being another toy.

I posted this couple years ago when winrt first came out, and I'll post it again about the biggest problem that winrt faced and continue to face.
Couple years ago when I had the first surface rt, I couldn't connect it to one of my printers. I called canon and told him I had winrt and if canon had a driver for it. Or was it samsung? Forget which printer this was. Anyway, the tech support dude, kept linking me to the driver for x86. I kept trying to explain to him that I was looking for the driver for winrt, which ran on ARM. The tech kept insisting that winrt was the same as windows 8, so the driver for one should work for the other.
Frustrated, I asked to speak to someone else. Someone else came on the line and I explained to him exactly what was going on, that I needed driver for winrt but the other guy kept linking me to the x86 driver. The 2nd guy told me that winrt and windows 8 were the same thing, so the driver for windows 8 should work for winrt. I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere with these guys, so I thanked them and hung up.
I then called microsoft support. When an MS tech dude came on, I explained to him that I just bought a winrt surface but I couldn't find the driver for my printer for it. Also explained to him that I spoke with 2 tech support guys from the other company and they didn't know the difference between winrt and windows 8.
The MS support dude then linked me to the windows 8 x86 driver for the printer. I pointed out to him that the driver he linked me to was for x86 system, but I was asking for ARM platform.
And I swear to god, at this point the MS support dude told me windows 8 and winrt were the same so driver for one should work for the other.
Think about that. I'm a technical person. And I had to deal with 3 tech support dudes that were convinced windows 8 and winrt were the same thing. Imagine how confused the average user would be when they called into support and had to talk to tech support like the ones I encountered.
That was when I realized winrt had absolutely no future. If 2 samsung and 1 MS tech support dudes thought that windows 8 and winrt were the same and that applications for one would run in the other, then winrt would never get the support it needed and it was pretty much an evolutionary dead-end.
