Cheers. Seems rather odd that they wouldn't be shipping units from within the country and forgo all this customs nonsense.

Well, the Surface Laptop is a new product and Canada is a laggard in new product offerings compared to the U.S. Unless Dalma ordered from eBay would his Surface Laptop be stuck in Customs. But yeah, I agree that Microsoft Canada would have massive quantities of the Surface Laptop in inventory to suit Canadian customer demand.

Microsoft has a large operation in Canada. I don't know if they actually warehouse any product in Canada or not though. The company that I work for moves food all across the planet and as long as the correct paperwork is prepared crossing borders in North America doesn't slow us down at all.
