Hi Guys,

I hope anyone can help me out how to solve my problem.

My SP4 won't turn on. After 2-3 minutes staying on Microsoft logo Surface UFEI appears on screen... I need my data that I didn't get any backup... It's all my thesis and projects so I'm terribly pissed off.

Microsoft didn't help me they can only replace my surface even I requested to retrieve my files by paying the cost and they said there are no specialists in Microsoft!!!!

Please help me

Does the UEFI screen detect the SSD under devices? If not it is possible that the drive failed. Have you attempted booting from a recovery image that you can download from the Surface Support Center? If none of these work, You would need to send it to a data recovery service, or possibly using a Live Version of bootable Linux you could mount the drive to recover your data.

No, it doesn't detect the SSD. I tried booting from recovery image still doesn't work. I even used the live version of Linux but it let me down!!! :(
I should ask data recovery service but does it make out of warranty?

Yep - what is more important your data or your warranty? I guess you could ask your MS rep if they would make an exception. It may be worth a try, but they typically factory refurb these for future replacement machines.

I asked them many times... they said we can't do anything for your data, you had to get a backup at the beginning which advised by Microsoft

OK - so now back to my original question - what is more important? Device Warranty or Data...

Data Recovery Services -
Solid State Drive SSD Data Recovery by ACE Data Recovery
Data Recovery Services | Ontrack, LLC
Data Recovery by DriveSavers

These have been around a long time and have a decent reputation - but I'm not endorsing or recommending them as I haven't used them personally.

Thank you for your help and recommendation... that's a really tough question I don't know to choose the laptop or my data... I'm gonna try calling Microsoft tomorrow again probably if I can push more they recover my data... interestingly, they said we don't have any specialist in our company to retrieve your data!!

What about OneDrive? I thought that Microsoft automatically makes a copy of your document files in the cloud.
