Power adapter heat

The power "brick" for my new Surface Pro 2017 gets very hot. It's not so hot that it blisters skin, but would be uncomfortable to hold in your hands for, say, 30 seconds. I would normally have the brick laying on my laminated wood desktop, but have placed it on its thin edge on top of rubber pads to raise it since I fear constant high heat may damage/delaminate the desktop veneer.

I live in Thailand with 220v mains power. Is this heat normal/usual?

Uncomfortable is a rather subjective term, but that nitpicking aside, it certainly sounds like you should be contacting Microsoft or the shop it was purchased from regarding an exchange as theveterans suggests. When electronics get that hot, I'm far more concerned about an electrical fire and a burned down home than I am a delaminated desk veneer.

Yea... can you pull the temp off yours? I have a few here. I can get readings from a few of them.
