External Monitor problem

A couple of months ago I got a surface 3 docking station and hooked it all up great, monitor was all working as should but a couple of days ago the monitor just kept saying "No input detected" - so I tried a different VGA cable, still no, different PC to the monitor that worked as it should but the surface wont, I tried it out the docking station and still no, any ideas?

The monitor won't work hooked up to the S3 dock or the S3 direct? But the monitor works hooked up to a different computer?

I recently used my s3 as an htpc over Christmas, and it was almost always the case that I'd have to restart the machine (with the monitor attached) before the second d display would be detected and work. If I just plugged it in while the machine was already on, then nothing.
