What's new

angled viewing shuts off keyboard

I have a habit of laying in my bed and reading my sp3 practically on its side, with the keyboard attached. Most often, the keyboard goes dead, supposedly by internal sensor. I can tilt the sp3 back to level and it reactivates. Any way to adjust it so this does not happen? Would not have bought it had I known this quirk.

Sorry - this is by design. There is a physical sensor in the keyboard to detect a tilt. The idea has been convolved from original intents to save power when the keyboard is stowed.

thanks for the reply...can it be disabled? battery life is not an issue for me, as i scarcely use it without power.

What is actually happening is that your Surface is trying to switch to Tablet mode as you angle the keyboard. You can test this by activating Shift Lock and watching when the LED goes out as you rotate.

Unfortunately, even if you tell Windows not to automatically switch to Tablet mode, the keyboard still does the temporary switch off.

At this time, I see no way to have Windows ignore that sensing circuit.
