round about 6hrs with wifi turned on, display @25 %, windows search index off, energy plan @Max saving, no extra devices attached (just type cover), used only for ms word and some web research... not all too bad. office is about the only things i use sp 1 for (im a law student, so there's not much i could use it for anyway) ;-)

Sometimes my surface claims it has 6 hours left.
It actually means just about 2.

so it's not all too bad if mine claims 9hrs and actually leaves me with 6hrs uptime

6 hours is definitely on the top end of things! I'd say mine averages around 5 hours on 50% brightness... luckily for me it's docked most of the time so not an issue
