I'm presuming you are able to successfully create the Rescue Media, correct?

In that case, all you have to do open the Charms bar, hit Settings > General > Advanced startup > Restart now.

When it finally gets to the Restart screen, it specifically lists my Sandisk drive as a bootable option. I click on it and then it reboots and boots from my Sandisk drive.

I use Macrium Reflect, the free version and it works great on SP. Created the Windows PE boot drive (Rescue disk) on an USB drive. Booted from the USB drive and it came up with Reflect, ready to restore your backed up images from previous backups. You can use Reflect to clone the Windows 8 drive to another HD or SSD drive. You can also use Reflect to create compressed backup images to any storage media. Highly recommended.
