New to ethernet connection, and it is not working.

I've always used wireless, but just moved into an office that prohibits wireless. I plugged their wired Ethernet cable into my dock, but it will not connect to to internet. Seems Like I had this problem with a laptop before, and had to go in somewhere and change a setting or something. I need this to be working by in the morning. Can someone point me in the right direction?

you may have to get your office proxy setting form your IT people.

To find out if it's a dock problem, pick up a USB to Ethernet cable and try connecting directly from your Surface. I used this method on my first Surface, before dock were available. It's a handy item to have, in case you find yourself in a location that has a LAN and no WiFi.
