The new Microsoft Surface Book was the surprise Dark Horse of the press event, garnering a great deal of media buzz immediately. It turns that media buzz translated into consumer interest as well. Every version of the new Surface Book is already sold out at Microsoft's online store.

Obviously it isn't too crazy to speculate that Microsoft probably built only a small number of these devices, so the fact that they sold out quickly may not be too surprising. Still, at a starting price point of $1,499, these puppies are not the most affordable devices on the planet. They definitely sit neatly into a "premium" product category.

Ultimately, we aren't too surprised by this. The Surface Book could be the perfect marriage between a full laptop and a tablet. Could Microsoft have "trumped" their own Surface Pro with the new Surface Book? At least in certain markets, that's entirely possible. Share your opinion.

Such a worthless statement alas.

That aside though, it wouldn't surprise me if they have plenty of stock, and will open up a new "window" once this market ploy has got even more people interested having read about it being out of stock.

More telling would be how 'sold-out' translates into numbers. Microsoft typically un-couples that from their pre-launch product sales announcements. It'd probably be best to hold off on those 'sold-out' press releases until they're comfortable including number of units purchased by consumers.

Exactly, what new tech product doesn't 'sellout' at launch?
