New & Used Keyboard lights up but not working

I have just purchased a second hand surface pro 4 and a used keyboard off ebay and no matter what I try its not working.
I purchased a new keyboard from pcworld just to test to see if it was the keyboard or tablet.
Exactly the same issue. The surface detects the keyboard when attached and keyboard lights up as it should when pressing buttons or touching mousepad.

Any Suggestions much appreciated

look in settings, update history. See if there is a reference to a recent update to the keyboard driver. In my case the keyboard totally stopped functioning a couple of days after an update in August 2017
