Hi all,

What are the best apps for the most common tasks you guys use your Surface 2 RT's for?

Stuff like, a media player of choice, ebook reader, PuTTY and things like that.

Well, while I use the Surface Pro 3, there is a Surface 2 in my house used by a family member and it is one that I have used extensively before I got the SP3.

I used the following to good effect:

ePUB books -> Book Viser (free); Freda (free) - I happen to like Book Viser.
YouTube -> Metro Tube (Free) and You Tube Downloader (though I don't use it too much)
Media Player -> Metro Media Player (Free - pay for MKV)
PDF -> Adobe Touch (free); Drawboard PDF (paid)
News -> Flipboard, News Republic, News Bento
Reddit -> ReddHub
Twitter - Twitter app (though I believe Tweetium (paid) is very good)
Communications -> Skype, Viber (both free)
Misc.: Fresh Paint (though I don't know what to do with it!)
Kindle -> Official Kindle App (though I have not installed it)
Blogging - > WordPress app (though I have not installed it)

All this aside from the MS apps - like Reading List (for saving articles/ pages from websites for reading later - syncs with my other Windows devices including phone), Calculator,

That's about it. Btw, I continue to use these apps on my Surface Pro 3 too!

Sorry, I don't know what PuTTY is.

OP you have to be more specific in what your looking for, are you looking for free stuff or purchase stuff? the stuff I got which some I paid and some are free is

mobile HD media player (which can play MKV files) it's a purchase app
Splashtop so I can log into my desktop and use apps from my desktop on my RT tablet (free)
slacker radio (free)
and for my games I really enjoy is
modern combat 5 (pay)
Halo (pay)
asphalt 8 (free)
GTA 3 (pay)

Well aside from the preloaded stuff, I've installed:

Metro Media Player Pro (Reads from my Plex server locally so winner for me)
Nook (Like Kindle, but I own a nook, so my books and account all work well)
Teamviewer (for connecting to other PC's local and wide)
Netflix (Epic version on Surface!)
Plex (Use this all the time on many platforms)
BBC News (Rubbish app, but does the job)
Google Search
FilmOn TV
TV Catchup
Asparion Clock

I don't mind paying for apps, but they need to be good, ad free and stable. I'm a bit shocked at the app prices on Windows Store tbh. Given that its struggling against the big boys the prices do need to be more reasonable otherwise they will never be competative.

Apps are a big business, but prices for some apps are outrageous for essentially bad apps. Without big name apps some substitutes of said big name apps are pricey.

Im not really a gamer, but retro games I have a mild interest for. But i sense that ports of stuff like JSW will cost a lot.

just an FYI, I wouldn't use the MUI of Netflix, it doesn't have as many movies as the web based in its repertoire...
