L lparsons21 Active Member Jan 17, 2014 #2 The Surfaces are all active screens, so yes they have backlighting. Easy to read on except in full sunlight imo. There are a number of reader apps for use also. I don't use mine for that since I think the 10" size is a bit big for reading with, others might disagree though.

Arizona Willie Active Member Jan 17, 2014 #3 Yes I use my Surface Pro for reading EVERY night. Mostly using the Kindle app. It is a bit heavy for laying in bed reading, but it's manageable.
