It's a general windows bug fix update... nothing specific to sp3, at least that I see.. :\

My SP3 256 overheated and shutdown by itself while doing this update. The very first time I saw the dreaded "thermometer". Surprised that after cooling down and restarting, all the updates were successfully installed including this optional update. Seems all is good now.

Guys, it's not a SP3 specific update, it's just the faulty 8.1 update that got delayed because it created problems for many.

What precisely does this update do though? It installed fine on my SP3. No hiccups of any kind.

Do you all simply install all the updates as they come out? I've turned off the auto-update and have checked online and here a day or two after updates come out to see if there is fallout from a rogue or problematic update. Right now my SP3 is working perfectly, so I don't want the hassle of an update messing up things.

if the update is bad it usually becomes known within a few days. i recommend waiting on most, though I don't always follow my own advice.

there was that nasty SP2 firmware update last December that fried battery life. ever since then I have been a bit less eager to do auto updates.
