My only reservation about not using a Touch/Type cover (thus using Bluetooth) with my Surface would be the decreased battery life.

I think the surface is really incomplete without a touch or type cover, even if you buy a blue tooth keyboard. The cover adds protection, functionality, comfort and style to the tablet. Since it is a tablet, you won't always want to bring extra accessories like Bluetooth keyboards with you. I find myself using the touch cover the majority of the time, even when I bring my Bluetooth keyboard with me. I only take out my Bluetooth keyboard when I know I'll be typing long paragraphs or if I am hooked up to my monitor. The great thing with the touch cover is it does not draw any battery at all from the surface itself.
