Battery charging Problem, New firmware?

Hi Guys,

yesterday I upgraded the firmware of my Surface pro 2 ,today I noticed that the battery wont charge the tablet anymore.... This may or may not be related,BUT it was charging fine till this last upgrade....

So the tablet is slowly dying on me as everitime i unplug it will discharge and when plugged back report correct battery charge left but wont charge...

THis is really worrying....

Same thing happened to me last night. It was plugged in all night but was at 25% in the morning. Though it was me, but maybe not...

I had a similar problem. Mine was charging but the indicator was stuck at 7%. Try this (for Pro only):

1. Shut down.
2. Hold vol + and power button for 15 sec. Surface logo may flash etc. but don't let go for 15 sec.
3. Let go of both buttons
4. wait 10 secs.
5. Press power button to start up.

This fixed my problem.

That worked perfectly!!! Thanks!

My Surface was telling me that battery was 100%, but it still said it was charging (it couldn't be charged at 100% since I had been using it for a couple of hours).
I did the steps you said, and now it's telling me that the battery is at 70% and charging, so I guess it has solved my problem as well.

Thanks!

I had problem where Surface Pro 2 would charge only to 80% and report that as 100% (31,221 mWh). Sometimes it would keep charging at 100% and sometimes it stops at 80% of actual capacity.

This is so weird but at best it was charging upto 41,677 mWh (More commonly 40,500mWh). Now it's doing 41,973 mWh. This device is designed to do 42,000 mWh.

I'm not sure what they done with firmware but it looks like it caused confusion for battery software in Surface.

Unless people look at mWh of battery, you won't know there is anything weird going on. It just shows 80% as 100%.

My Surface Pro with 128 GB using the app Battery Bar reports that full charge is 38,228 mWH which is quite a bit below what others here seem to be reporting.
Do the batteries in the various Surface Tablets hold different amounts at full charge?
Or is it due to wear and tear and age?
I got mine about the beginning of March so it's only about 9 months old, if that.

The batteries do suffer from reduced capacity over time from the charge/discharge cycles. For 9 months old, going from 42mwh to about 38 would potentially be within reason. If you install HWmon you can check how many charge cycles have been put through the battery.

Anyone using the paid app Battery Bar Pro?
Is it worth the $8?

I bought it and loved it but just recently uninstalled it. I was trying to identify processes that are power hungry. I removed Battery Bar, Decor8, and HDDLed and noticed a significant improvement in battery. All 3 of those programs ran processes that constantly polled the system looking for changes. I'll try to add them back one at a time to see if just one is particularly bad or if all 3 suck juice.

So I was having similar difficulties as posted above - plugged in, but not charging. Percentage not changing while the battery should have been draining. Performed the instructions above, everything seemed to bounce back to normal, but now things have reverted back to the way they were???

I'm assuming this has somethign to do with the recent updates, as this wasn't an issue last week. I assume as well that this will be fixable in the future...how does one report this issue to MS?

Something definitely broken with this update. Since the update, my full charge capacity has almost halved (according to powercfg). If I recall, the update contained something related to faster charge times, I wonder if they've screwed up with the calculations :-(
