Why no detailed reviews on SB2?

So, it looks like it’s been confirmed that the Surface Connect port can indeed carry 120 watts. So Microsoft could theoretically introduce a larger charger and essentially solve the problem. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Why no detailed reviews on SB2?

I know you're joking, but on a serious note there is a legitimate question about how much power the Surface Connect port can carry. So it could be a limiting factor, depending on exactly what that amount is.

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Waiting does make some sense, sure, and I would but I'm actually without a good enough notebook at the moment and so I have to buy something. That said, I'm more than certain that if Microsoft does start shipping a different power supply, they'll make it available to early buyers. They'll...

Why no detailed reviews on SB2?

I agree, except it raises the question for me: why can't they get enough power? Is it a limitation of the Surface Connect port? I thought I saw that it can provide 120 watts, so I'm not sure about that. So I get what they're doing, and they could have also limited things to keep the machine...

    SB2 15" display and sRGB/Enhanced settings

So, for anyone who has an SB2 15", a somewhat obscure (and maybe really picky) question... On the Surface Pro, Microsoft implemented the same sort of enhanced display modes as I understand are present on the SB2. Namely, they implemented two new ICC color profiles, sRGB and Enhanced, and...

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

The only way Microsoft can back off of the power supply issue is to provide a different power supply. And I'm guessing there has to be some reason for why they're limiting things this way -- the Surface Connect port can't handle more power, the machine would overheat, or something. For whatever...

    Surface Book 2 - will you buy/upgrade?

Interesting... It's a Samsung PM961, but that's not a great result for that drive. The 1TB version scored 2877 MB/s read and 1239 MB/s write in a test I've seen.

    Surface Book 2 - will you buy/upgrade?

I haven't figured out yet how to correlate CrystalDiskMark 6.X scores to 5.X. To do a direct apples-apples comparison, could you download and run CDM 5.X (if it's still available on their site)? Also, what drive is listed in Device Manager?

Is the USB-C Port Gen 1 or 2?

From the Microsoft Surface Book 2 specs (Microsoft Surface Book 2 Specs | Powerhouse Performance | Surface): 1 x USB type-C (version 3.1 Gen 1 with USB Power Delivery revision 3.0)

    Anyone recieved their SB2

Awesome, thanks! And I'll admit to at least a little bit of using my wife's needs as an excuse for going big. I mean, if I'm going to spend $2500 on a notebook, I might as well spend $3300, right?

    Anyone recieved their SB2

One of the reasons I'm considering the SB2 15" is to run my wife's designer apps on occasions (frankly, it's overkill for my own uses as a writer; the 13" would be fine for my needs). Those include AutoCAD, and so any input you can provide on how well it does there would be appreciated.

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Thanks for the advice, but I actually hate Best Buy and avoid buying from them. Had some bad experiences with them in the past. That said, the Microsoft Store currently has its holiday return policy in effect, which runs through January 31.

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

I keep going back and forth on this myself. Contrary to my relatively harsh statement above, I think you make a valid point here. I won't say "99% of people won't notice this," probably it's a lower percentage. But it's not trivial. I'd amend my earlier harshness by saying that people who buy...

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Regardless of the reasons, this is starting to seem like a real problem to me. The typical buyer isn't likely to consider that the machine can't run at top speed without draining the battery. That's not at all intuitive. I was prepared to go to the Microsoft Store today and drop $3000 on a...

Why no detailed reviews on SB2?

Here's a discussion: Microsoft's Surface Book 2 has a power problem I'm perplexed by this. I'm not sure how they could have gone through their entire engineering cycle on the machine without realizing this, and so it can't be a surprise to them. And then I don't know why they'd engineer it this...

Why no detailed reviews on SB2?

Looks like Microsoft is now just explaining the issue as being by design. And they've worked out a whole system to manage things -- slide the performance slider to the right, you'll get full performance and battery discharge for a time before it will throttle back. Slide the performance slider...

Why is everyone crying about Thunderbolt 3?

To me, the biggest weakness of no Thunderbolt 3 is that external display support is limited. With TB3, there'd be no issue pushing two 4K displays at 60Hz. As it is, you can only push one 4K display at 60Hz, or two QHD+ displays at 60Hz. That actually gives me a bit of pause as I consider...

CPU Throttling on 15 inch Surface Book 2 after 1709?

Doesn't seem like the news has filtered through to here yet, forgive me if I'm missing it already being discussed (still early for me, not enough coffee). Microsoft has already acknowledged: the SB2 power supply doesn't provide enough power to run the CPU and GPU (particularly the GPU) at 100%...
