New Surface owners! REGISTER YOUR DEVICES

Once again, thanks for this, oion. If you hadn't have mentioned this in your other post I wouldn't have been aware that it was possible to register my device. So, I'm sure many others will appreciate you making a separate thread for this!

What are the advantages of using a local account?

Oh, sorry, this is what I meant! In my case then, as I was holding it down for a few moments, it was actually closing the application. Exactly! Thanks for the link. So long as there aren't any disadvantages to having encryption on then that's great! And, I'll have to check this out.

    Pro?

I think you're right. Windows are aiming for a Desktop-less experience. Personally, I do think that they need to push the Surface 2 as the device to have. Because, then all of those desktop applications I still have to use could be developed as a native Windows app. But, until then, I'm glad...

What are the advantages of using a local account?

Admittedly, typing in my password every time will get boring very quickly. But, I can normally enter my passwords relatively quickly (through familiarity with them) so I think I could get by with it. As for your mention of the swiping down gesture, I was using this last night and it gave me...

What are the advantages of using a local account?

Rallicat. Thank you for the response. That's really helpful. It was my suspicion that people were being paranoid. But, I already have an Apple ID, and a Google account. I'm pretty sure that anyone who wanted my details already has it ... So, I'm happy using a Microsoft account. I will, however...

Weird battery life on the surface pro 2

macmee. I've seen it mentioned frequently on these forums that the Windows 8.1 will do a lot of indexing when you first have the device. If that's true, it's likely that the inconsistent usage reporting you've seen may be because it's been working on indexing in the background, without you...

4GB or 8GB RAM really make a difference?

I have the SP2 64/4. I did want to buy the 8GB version but I couldn't justify paying for the additional SSD space that I wouldn't use. £300+ for the 8GB of RAM I wanted just wasn't reasonable. I expect to browse the internet, watch videos, listen to music, use Notepad++, GIMP 2, and Blender...

What are the advantages of using a local account?

I've read numerous posts here advising that most people do not want to sign in with a Microsoft account and instead use a local account. What I don't fully understand is why? Can someone please elaborate the reason(s) why anyone might prefer to use a local account, rather than a Microsoft...

Charging indicator? anyway to tell if its actually charging

If the device is on, and I'm using it (just browsing the internet, with one tab, no other apps or desktop programs running), should the light eventually turn green? Because, I was using mine last night (just like described) and the light didn't turn green. It was always white. Perhaps it just...

    Wifi problems on SP2?

I'm just a curious fan ... :) But, I'll post something soon. I suspect there will be a lot of other reviews popping up in the next few days so keep an eye out for them as well. In the meantime, there are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful users on this forum so I'm sure they'll give you some...

    Wifi problems on SP2?

No problems to report with my SP2 64GB. But, I've only used it for a few hours in the same spot. I'd really like to post a review of my experience soon. I'll be sure to cover this. But, I can't complete an accurate review until I've used it in multiple scenarios and locations.

    Its Here!!!

oion. Thank you for mentioning product registration. I received my SP2 yesterday. It's the first Surface I've owned and hadn't been prompted in the documentation or setup process to register the product. So, I wasn't even aware there was an option.

Anyone else get the old Pro charger with their Pro 2?

I'm at work and I don't have my SP2 with me. But, I'm going to have a look at my charger when I get home. I just read on the Microsoft Store that it offers an additional USB charging port. I didn't see that on my charger yesterday evening. Of course, I wasn't looking for it though because I...

    WiFi chip on the SP2?

zejaca506. I'm at work at the moment and, unfortunately, don't have my SP2 with me. If you haven't received any further responses with the answer you're looking for by this evening I'll check and let you know. For now (although I appreciate it's not much to go on), I can tell you that I had...

    Really excited for SP2 delivery

I've ordered the 64/4. I really wanted the 256/8 for the additional RAM but I just cannot justify spending £300 for an additional 4GB of RAM when I don't need the extra SSD space. It would have been really nice for them to have offered an 8GB of RAM option for the 64 and 128 models.
