    Restore i5 SP3 image onto i7 SP3

That may be the problem. My Sandisk drive would not boot with the recovery image. Sandisk drives are set to mount as "fixed disks" rather than "removable drives" in order to be compatible with "Windows to Go". There are apparently ways to make the drive bootable, but I just found another drive.

    Restore i5 SP3 image onto i7 SP3

What USB drive are you using?

    Restore i5 SP3 image onto i7 SP3

If you are worried about accidentally wiping the recovery partition, you could back up the recovery partition to a USB drive and use that in the event of any mishaps. Just make sure you can boot from your USB drive after creating the recovery drive. The first drive I tried would not boot.

    Restore i5 SP3 image onto i7 SP3

I would say to give it a try. If it doesn't work out, you can just refresh the device. Windows will hopefully detect the hardware changes and install the appropriate drivers. I have changed motherboards/processors on machines without reinstalling Windows. Windows goes through its "Found new...

    Purpose of the SP3 forum?

I am not a Mac user, but I think that comparisons to comparable devices should not be discouraged. I like the idea of the Surface Pro line but MS's execution has been deeply flawed. I am somewhat disappointed with the direction of the SP3 so comparable alternatives are of interest to me...

    Bamboo Paper for Windows 8

Does it support handwriting recognition and are the notes searchable?

    Bezel Separation

If your unit is still within the exchange period, I would recommend exchanging where you purchased it rather than going through Microsoft - unless you really want to play a round of refurbished roulette...

    Bamboo Paper for Windows 8

Looking at the user reviews, it doesn't seem to work on the SP3 (or even the SP2).

My SP3 froze in a meeting

I agree that the Surface line has its share of problems, and I think that the SP3 is moving in a wrong direction, but I think that these are unfair comments. The Chrome issues are Chrome issues not surface issues. Chrome is just not the best browser to use. It s a battery hog and has issues...

    SP2 vs SP3

It is marketed as a laptop replacement... And much of the disappointment from the SP2 crowd is due to the unexpected poorer performance. After my experience of being an early adopter of the SP2, there was no way I was going to make that mistake again. Is it too much to expect SP1<SP2<SP3

    SP2 vs SP3

An iPad or Android device can handle those usage scenarios. The SP3 is specifically marketed as a laptop replacement "jack of all trades" type of device. I wouldn't hold out too much hope since the SP3 issues are rooted in an inadequate cooling solution. Sure, MS could tweak the thermal...

Microsoft Customer service really really sucks!!!!!

Send it back. There is no reason to accept crap like that. If this is an advanced exchange, make sure you call support and inform them that you are sending the replacement back (as opposed to your current unit) or else your credit card could end up getting charged.

    So long SP3 friends...

But it might just be something that prospective SP3 purchasers want to hear.

    Firmware update crashed my device

How can it not be under warranty? The standard SP2 warranty is one year and it was released October 22, 2013.

    Recommend a USB 3.0 HUB

I was going to recommend my Anker hub since it is nice and compact and can be used unpowered or powered but it looks like it has been discontinued http://www.amazon.ca/Chipset-Superspeed-Adapter-included-Compatible/dp/B007BWTOHU This looks like the successor. Unfortunately, it needs external...

    Great Support Experience

Well, my main reason for joining these forums was to discuss my issues with the SP2 - so, my screen-name very much reflects my demeanor at the time of my joining (and even more-so now). I suppose that my characterization of my support interactions as "screw you" may have been a little harsh but...

Pros/Cons of SP2 vs SP3 from My Perspective

Hmmmmm... My advice is the opposite. Unless you need the larger screen there just does not seem to be a compelling reason to go with the SP3. The SP2 is relatively mature while the SP3 brings new and interesting bugs. Not to mention the throttling issues of the SP3. Given the SP2 price drop...

    Media / Videos - Plex / Bluestack

VLC is a bit of a CPU hog resulting in poor battery life. For maximizing battery life, you really can't beat the default Metro video app. I don't play ISOs but I convert my MKVs to MP4s using MKV2MP4.

    Great Support Experience

Well, that is depressing... I have gotten nothing from MS support other than a giant "screw you"...

Microsoft Complete Coverage - worth it?

The only way you will possibly get a new replacement is if you live near an MS store or if there are no refurbished units available. Otherwise, plan on playing refurbished roulette.
