I had the same problem with my SP3 after the upgrade to Win10 and couldn't find the source of the problem. I finally did a reset and the problem was resolved. In fact, the system is running better than ever.

I can report from my own personal and anecdotal experience that Windows 10 does boot and shut down faster, and applications launch in a heartbeat. I should clarify that this is on my homebuilt desktop, my SP3 has always been quick.

I've been debating the same thing, and I think if my SP3 was my primary machine I would make the purchase. However, it's used mostly for travel and couch surfing while my desktop is used for the heavy lifting, so I think I'll hold off until the SP5 arrives and I upgrade everything.

I have the SP3 4GB/128GB and it has always done the sort of tasks you're describing with power to spare. In fact, my Surface is doing so well I can't justify upgrading to the SP4, darn it. :D You'll be fine with 4GB of RAM.

I'm not able to get the free shipping at tiger direct so it would probably be a wash. I don't have Amazon Prime but since the dock is over $35 there's no shipping charge (but you have to be patient).
