Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I prefer the transparency level of the sidebar in 8.1 to that used in 10. The sidebar in 10 is so opaque it just feels intrusive to me. MS really should give us an option to set transparency at the level we prefer (although giving the user design options really isn't in MS's DNA.) By this I...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I have to believe that the fan issues, heat and lousy battery life are due to extra overhead from debugging (or something related) happening in the background. It makes no sense that MS would take away the HD Control Panel to give us an extra few minutes of battery life then absolutely murder...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

High impact on startup? I'm running the latest Intel Drivers with HD Control Center right now and my SP3 starts up fast. Are we talking about saving a second or two here? Sorry but I'm not so busy I'm looking to shave seconds off my day. Startup lasts a few seconds, the benefit of the HD...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I'm having a hard time buying the idea that being able to set gamma darker actually makes my battery life worse. Or that Startup Speed would be dramatically impaired by the HD Control Panel. Apparently MS knows something no other major computer manufacturer does. In reality what we have here...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Has anyone ever figured out why MS has deemed it necessary to exclude the HD Control Panel from the SP3 Drivers? I know having control over things like gamma, etc is something NO ONE WANTS (sort of like the Start Menu, right MS?), but is there actually a rational reason? P.S., I hate when MS...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

For those who don't know, if you ever lose your Function Keys under this build, hold down the "Fn" key and hit "Caps" to get them back.

Running Start8 and ModernMix on 8.1 definitely makes it more tolerable.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

The strangest thing about these builds (honestly, why do we do this to ourselves when 8.1 is a solid, perfectly stable OS?) is the way they not only affect each person's machine differently, but how they seem to degrade over time. Weird.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Bizarre. My SP3 is no longer recognizing and of my F1 through F12 keys.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

On the Start Menu I actually preferred the little rolling animation tiles as opposed to just the vertically scrolling ones. It seems like on an already boring canvas, they have opted for the even more boring option. Minimalism is one thing guys, but geesh, come on. For instance, on the wide...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Been trying Spartan a little more. Can see this being my go-to browser once they make it a little faster and add drag and drop (hopefully) to the sidebar. One thing I've noticed is you can't scroll until the entire page has loaded. A little annoying.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I'd like the Start Menu to be more transparent or give me the option to control the level.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

You know, Windows 10 is cool, but other than slightly improved font-smoothing and secondary screen rendering, I can't think of anything it really does "better" than Windows 8 (assuming you use an add-on like Start8 from Stardock to make the Start Menu not suck). I know there's other stuff like...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Still getting bizarre error message any time I try sending email through my website's server ever since installing Outlook 2013 on this build. Task 'mitchell@[website].biz - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC67) : ' The server responded: 421 4.2.1 H:IPB0 [xxx.xx.x.x] Connection refused due to...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

I think the fact this happened after I installed Outlook 2013 may have been a coincidence. I went back to 2007 and still getting error. In addition the Windows Mail client is also throwing the error. I have an idea this is the server's problem and they are working on it. Thanks for your help.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Here's something odd. I installed a trial version of Office 2013 Outlook. This replaced my 2007 version. Now every time I try to send mail to my "mail.[mywebsite].biz" server, I get a "Trusted Certificate" violation. What's happening here?

One nice thing about Edge is that you can now dock Favorites on the RIGHT side. Being right handed it always was a mystery to me why Internet Explorer defaulted to the left side when docking. You still need to be able to resize the dock but it's an improvement. Also, when docked they need to...
