wrong serial number?

hello im trying to register for the warranty online thing and i have a "Q" at the begining of my serial number

what does it mean?

Mine is 12 characters long, entirely made of numbers. Actually, I just realised I've not yet registered my replacement one, best get round to it!

There was a problem with the registration site a while ago, not sure if they fixed it. When I needed to service my SP2, I had to register it first, and the site would not accept the serial number. Support had to manually do it on their end, took a long time.

Hmmm....

This brings a question to mind. Don't the warranty replacements get automagically registered when MS ships them and de-register the item they replaced? It would seem to make sense.

Yes. When my device was replaced, it showed up registered to me with my MS extended warranty applied to it.
