What is the best software for setting up a home server?

I have an older acer mini server with windows home server installed. Is this fine for a server accessed through my network? Is it ok, to set up this so I can access it on the road when I am travelling? I am planning on have 4 14tb drives in it for storage of video/photo projects etc.

That setup should work fine. You have plenty of storage networked with that server. The reliability and speed of processors like your Acer is far less important than broadband speed. If your network is connected to good throughput rates, a faster server will not likely add much value.

Ok, perfect. I just wanted to make sure that the older windows server software is secure. I have no issue with throughput from my network, on speedtest I regularly get 1000 mbps up and down so there should be no bottle neck there.
