SP4 Backlight always on

Got my Surface Pro 4 yesterday, and after a few hours of use it suddenly began to keep the backlight of the screen on all the time, even when the screen is off. Also, the setting to adjust the brightness in the notification panel suddenly became greyed out, and the slider for brightness in the settings is also greyed out. Trying to adjust the brightness through power options in the control panel has no effect. All updates have been installed, and I have tried restarting the surface multiple times. The brightness is stuck at 100% and is burning through any battery life.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has a simple fix, this is my first windows computer after a long time out.

Get it exchanged. That definitely sounds like a hardware issue.

So I've just done a complete factory reset and it has seemed to have fixed the problem, hopefully it'll stay like this. Thank you for the reply though.
