I wanted shortcuts on my Start Menu and my desktop to allow me to jump directly to my Calendar or my Contacts.
Here is the way to do this (for Outlook 2013 - modify the path for previous versions)
SHORTCUT TO OUTLOOK
Create desktop shortcut to target location: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\OUTLOOK.EXE"
SHORTCUT TO CALENDAR
Create desktop shortcut to target location: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\OUTLOOK.EXE" /select outlook:calendar
SHORTCUT TO CONTACTS
Create desktop shortcut to target location: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\OUTLOOK.EXE" /select outlook:contacts
You can change the icons on each of these Shortcuts by right-clicking on them, Change Icon. See screenshots for illustrations.
Now, you can pop up your calendar or contacts quickly, without going through the email interface of Outlook.
Enjoy!
