What's new

no no no no noooooo spilt coke on my type cover

Some of the keys are now sticky as the coke residue has stayed, although it is dry, is it definitely ok to wash it with water as long as it is left to dry out for ages?

I just spilled rum on half my Surface Pro 3 keyboard, so here were my steps:

1. swear at the wall
2. take another shot
3. rinsed the affected half under tap water
4. Use compressed air to blow the water out from between keys. Lots came out.
5. take another shoot
4. Put keyboard a few inches away from low-power (500 watt) heater fan for 20 minutes
8: tested it: all keys work fine no sticking!~

I've long suspected there's nothing in the keyaboard that would be damaged with a little rinsing. Glad for this opportunity to test it when I don't care much. Bolstered by knowing I can just buy another keyboard.

I agree. Although I wouldn't recommend rinsing with water for routine cleaning, when it's something far worse than water (I did the same as you only with coffee, not rum), a quick rinse and then adequate water removal and drying is better than sticky rum.
