Well, I logged out of Skype, uninstalled it and reinstalled via the Store. I also uninstalled my second (external) webcam completely. Yesterday's testcall using the internal front cam worked faultlessly. So it seems to have been fixed for now.
Before I did a system reset and updated all drivers. What exactly caused/solved the issue, I do not know.
