InstantGo/Connected standby help.

I recently go a Surface and I am an avid music listener and go through Google play services to get all my music needs and i wanted to listen to music on my surface but i can't listen to music when the screen goes to sleep whether the screen times out or even if I manually lock the screen. I can't seem to get a straight forward answer anywhere and I like to think I'm pretty good at troubleshooting.
