Canary is there "edge of usability" channel, before alpha and beta I believe. So you can use it, but may be unstable/break or the features may be removed quickly.

Yes, chrome must be set as the default browser for windows 8 mode to work. For chrome canary, you need to first modify the registry per the instructions before you can set canary as a default browser.
Can confirm! I have an SP3, too and it's finally working with the penI can now use the pen in metro mode with canary.It even scrolls webpages.
I have a surface pro 3 btw.
