Cortana can't hear my voice to ask her questions, how to fix?

Cortana is on my task bar so when I 'write/type' she goes to Bing to answer my question. But, when I click on the microphone to speak to her through my Bluetooth enabled microphone/speaker device she 'can't hear me'. What to do?
