Can't speak to the 590 but a Zumo 665 works fine with Surface 3. They're both Windows 10 machines so I can't imagine why.. Have you tried the Microsoft store? Also, consider a Surface Pro 4 if you're interested in having something portable that will work. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Can't speak to the performance of the S4 as I don't own one. However, I purchased my docking station on ebay for significantly less than retail. Lots of open box and people get them and never use them. Now is probably a good time to look now that the holidays are over.

Update: Appears that it only happens if I power the monitor off while the Surface in left in the docking station. Leaving the monitor on the Surface does not hang.

When I was shopping for my Surface 3 few deals were to be found. I finally purchased from Newegg.com as they were throwing in a $70 Microsoft Bluetooth mouse if you purchased the keyboard cover at the same time.

Received the Surface 3 yesterday and successfully loaded up Basecamp and the Garmin Express programs. No issues to report with the install. Early indications are that the Basecamp program works fine on the Surface 3. I successfully created a small map/route without any notable performance...

When I was talking to the folks at the Microsoft Store, they said that there is a "commercial" version of the Surface 3 available that allows for more memory and a larger hard drive, however, you have to prove that you have a business, or the company you work for has to purchase it. Or something...

Yeah, I wasn't planning on using the Surface as a GPS, but instead to build routes and transfer them to a Zumo 665. There's a lot of data associated with the BC program and was wondering what response time is like on the Surface.
