Surface Pro 3 - best computer I've owned

I've got to agree with OP. Best laptop/tablet I've used, and I've done professional tech reviews. (i7/512GB) My parents still use their SP1 on a daily basis and love it. I wrote ~80% of my PhD thesis and did 50%+ of the neural data analysis on it. Upgraded to Windows 10 a week before my defense...

Solved Cannot Connect to Samsung TV - Others Can

I had the same situation with a Samsung BluRay player. I tried so many things that I'm not 100% sure what got it to work, but I'm pretty sure it involved uninstalling the display and network adapters in the device manager and rebooting. I MAY have also chosen to delete the drivers and waited for...

Recall makes the Surface Pro 3 worthless

Oh man, that recalled power cord makes this computer worthless, but I feel worse for Apple owners. They just recalled most of their adapters from between 2003 and 2015. I guess all Apple products are worthless now, too. (Yes, this is sarcasm.)

How to prevent Hardware Updates in Windows 10?

That's gets you to the same setting I mentioned above. It works under Win 8.1, but not 10. When you select "No" there are no additional options that appear. Thanks for trying.

How to prevent Hardware Updates in Windows 10?

Hey all, I've been using the manually installed Intel drivers (v x.19.15.4300), and found than more stable than 4256, which is included in the 10/26/2015 Hardware Update. In Windows 10 pre-TH2, you could select an option in the advanced system properties to prevent driver updates. But, that...

    Improving SSD performance

Same for me - grayed out with the MZMTE512HMHP-000MV (512GB version) firmware EXT42M0Q. Also tried running as admin and all compatibility setting down to Windows 7. Nada. Haven't tried booting into safe mode, but that shouldn't be required. I would manually upgrade the firmware, but the...

BSOD Video scheduling error with external display

It might be the DisplayLink drivers, but I think it has to do partially with the bugs related to display detection failing after wake from sleep. Anyhow, updated to the latest Intel Drivers, 4279, (DL drivers were up to date), and the behavior changed, but it is still broken. Now if I restart...

BSOD Video scheduling error with external display

You misread. That's how I have it set up now - the primary display is the one connected to the miniDP. The secondary is the one connected to the USB video adapter. Also, the miniDP display is identified as #2, and the USB display as #3.

BSOD Video scheduling error with external display

I have a repeatable BSOD and wondering if anyone has a better work around. Setup: SP3 i7/512, Win10 x64 (all updates, no manual driver installs), 2 external monitors - 1st via displayport on SP3, 2nd via USB docking station (Plugable UD-3900 using DVI). If I disable the built in display and...

    New Firmware Update 9/29

Yup, installed on the first try. Wireless driver version 15.68.9030.41 (new version).

    New Firmware Update 9/29

No network after restarting for the update, but a second restart appears to have fixed it. (Between restarts Device Manager showed what others were saying about not starting successfully. I assume it has something to do with reinitializing the hardware following the update.)

    Speed up PDF Annotator?

I think most of the speed problems with PDF Annotator come from the crazy million-tabbed interface. I wish they'd just go with a more standard interface because you can practically feel the screen redraws bogging it down. Drawboard had a period of being pretty unstable, but since the massive...

    File History partially broken

Other people are reporting this problem on the MS support forums. File History is partially broken in Windows 10. I am unable to exclude some folders from it, namely the Downloads folder. I use this folder as a catch-all before sorting into their proper locations. I cannot add it to the...

Using Intel's video drivers pros and cons

@malberttoo I totally understand. There are definite benefits to trying new drivers. I mean, they wouldn't be releasing intentionally worse drivers. I guess my message is that there are things that go on behind closed doors that we, as consumers, are not privy to. So, before everyone has the...

Using Intel's video drivers pros and cons

Yup, I know. So were the ones that I had trouble with. They may not do full testing on every release, and only the vendors and Intel know which have been fully regression tested. The versions I would install would be minor updates (like from v10.12.1 to 10.13.1), and bugs would be introduced...

    Dual Display setup with Dockingstation

Daisy chaining DP displays has been wonky for the SP2 and SP3. It's odd that a specific monitor, especially one as popular as the Dell Ultrasharp series, is incompatible. I opted for a Dockable USB 3 dock for one 24" Dell (Ultrasharp, but I forget which model #), and a separate mDP to HDMI to...

Using Intel's video drivers pros and cons

As a long time TabletPC user (long enough that I used the term 'TabletPC'), I avoid vendor drivers from past experience. In the past, the Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers I've installed have worked 95% of the time. Day to day use was fine and some apps performed better, but display rotation and...

    Swipe keyboard for SP3?

And you'll notice it hasn't been updated in over a year. They basically released it and abandoned it (those 3 updates that got it from 1.0 to 1.3 were all released immediately after launch). It's a shame. Their Android keyboard isn't bad (I use Swiftkey, but used to switch off between them a...

    Speed up PDF Annotator?

I'm totally aware that the complexity of 'real' programs like PDF Annotator will be more stressful on the system. But, it shouldn't be more stressful that Acrobat+Excel+Word+Matlab+RStudio combined. I'm hoping that messing with the more nonstandard interface elements will help (part of it seems...

    Speed up PDF Annotator?

Hey all, Anyone have any suggestions for speeding up PDF Annotator? I just purchased it, hoping to replace Acrobat, but it is DOG SLOW. In larger PDFs (100+ pages), searching can take minutes and stalls every ~75 pages. The interface is a laggy, probably due to the crazy amount of customizing...
