Which Surface Pro 4 issues remain?

It's not that bad. Just make the following changes to the default settings: Switch from Sleep to Hibernate when on battery for the power button and closing the lid Hibernate after 5 minutes of Sleep when on battery (the default is 120 minutes).

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

There's really nothing I can add to what's already been said in this thread. I would be happy with either the M3 or the i5. It was a very close call. I had to return one of them. I liked the fact that the i5 was a tad faster and had better sound (which may have just been variation in...

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

I agree, your experience doesn't sound right. It wouldn't surprise me if your M3 is defective. From everything I've read, there are a lot of defective SP4s out there, particularly the early shipments. My i5 and M3 work fine except for the usual flakiness discussed in this forum. However, I'm...

What does everyone use their surface or 4 - for?

I have a Dropbox account, but only used it once to transfer a large file. I guess I now have a OneDrive account, too, but haven't explored it yet. Generally, I've avoided the cloud because I feel safer with my data on my own drives with my own (multiple/redundant) backups. Also, as of a month...

What does everyone use their surface or 4 - for?

Also, I use it for MS Office, websurfing, and connecting remotely to my home and office desktop PCs to check email, etc. I only store important documents on it temporarily. All documents are stored permanently on my desktops where they're backed up both onsite and offsite. That way, if my SP4...

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

I just went to Best Buy and returned the M3. I hated to see that little fanless wonder go! Me and the i5 will miss him...er...it. Thanks for letting me know. I got $100 back on the i5. Before I returned the M3, I made the registry change and then undid it just to see how it worked. It's...

MS website claims up to 9 hours of video?

You're not alone. That's pretty close to the average I see reported. Maybe not, but think of it this way. Clearly MS has a lot of work to do improving/optimizing both Windows 10 and the SP4 to minimize battery drain. For example, the sleep drain and keyboard drain issues. I have a high...

Bad m3? I loose 25% battery per hour

Chrome is a notorious battery drain on all mobile devices, not just the SP4. Just Google "Chrome battery drain." You'll see a lot of articles around the middle of 2015 where they say that Google has finally decided to address the problem, but I see no articles saying that they solved the problem.

MS website claims up to 9 hours of video?

Call me an optimist, but I'm hoping that once Microsoft gets their act together and fixes the Surface firmware, Windows 10, MS Edge, etc. to make them more efficient, the SP4 will achieve battery times closer to the 9 hours mark they claim for the product. I'm not saying that I will regret...

Bad m3? I loose 25% battery per hour

You're getting 4 hours on a full charge. That's on the low end, but not outside the range that everyone else is getting at this stage. Hopefully, Microsoft will give us more battery time with future updates that run more efficiently with regard to the battery. In the meantime, we just need to...

    Battery Drain ?

Just detach the keyboard and hibernate when you're done. I primarily use it as a tablet and the power button is set to hibernate. So, I just hit the power button when I'm done. Even if I put it down without hitting the power button, it's set to hibernate after 5 minutes of sleep.

    Battery Drain ?

I did some experiments with the keyboard attached and some experiments with the keyboard detached and came up with the following observations. When I put my SP4 directly into hibernation without the keyboard attached (in tablet mode), there's essentially no battery loss. When I put my SP4...

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

Eduardmc, I reread the thread you posted a couple of times and am getting more comfortable with the concept of underclocking. There are still some aspects of the setting changes that I don't understand. One poster stated that if you reverse the registry change you can "get the sleep-state...

    Surface Pro 4 quickly discharging

I don't know why they spread these settings all over about 5 screens, since they all work in tandem together. I find that summarizing them in one place helps me design my optimal configuration. Here's is my current configuration: .........................................................On...

    Surface Pro 4 quickly discharging

I dropped my hibernation time (when on battery) to 5 minutes and am considering dropping it more. Why do you need to have your SP4 sleep for 60 minutes before it hibernates? You're just draining the battery for no apparent reason.

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

That sounds like more tinkering with my power settings than I want to experiment with. If something goes wrong, I won't be a happy camper, that's for sure.

I'm Leaning Towards the i5 Over the M3

It's definitely a close call. I'm sure I'd be very happy with either one. It's just that I have to return one of them...
