Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Update with fixes then to 10122. This newer build is pretty unstable for me. I felt comfortable on the last one but every other hour start button stops working, wifi stops, just sporadic things I did not experience. Unfortunately I did not take the sign that when most of us couldn't update...

    Core I5 or Core I7 SP3?

I originally had the i7, we my to i5 after fan issues and used the extra money for dock and accessories. Not much of a difference in performance but I do miss the 512gb storage I had. No buggy, happier with dock and accessories I think.

No luck here either. Can't seem to figure it out. 18%/62% freeze.

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Anyone have issues with file sharing on Windows 10? Latest build installed, clean install. Everything else seems to be running fine. EDIT: Scratch that - seems to have started when I assigned a PIN for login. Signed out and back in using my MS account password and it's now working...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

And...it's using the new Installing Windows 10 Technical preview screen with the cool circle that's filling in blue as it goes through the updates...unfortunately mine seems stuck at 3% :(. Does look like there is significant HDD activity though still so just going to sit tight...even if it has...

    SP3 constant fan

Some people claim a fresh install works, but I just returned an i7 for an i5 in favor of "less" fan noise, but it still happens. :/ You can try and go through an exchange with Microsoft support and see if that works out for you. I notice the fan more so when I have the power plugged in, but...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

So I took the plunge to Windows 10 (9926) last night to test something that drives me nuts...and still is. I thought I read multi-monitor DPI scaling was working/fixed? Or was that pre-9926? Still seems to work the same as it did in Windows 8.1.

    OFFICIAL I Now Have a Surface Pro 3 i7

Unfortunately I ended up returning the i7 model. Got the advanced exchange (same lot group as the one I had) - and same issues with the fan. Sending back the advanced exchange unit and returned the i7 for an i5. Rarely ever hear the fan now. For me performance isn't a big hit at all, if...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

Hey everyone - if it hasn't been posted already appears a new patch is available for Windows 10 with a lot of updates. KB3036140. Going to try and get it loaded on my VM now. http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-updated-18-improvements-included-in-the-latest-patch

    OFFICIAL I Now Have a Surface Pro 3 i7

The Fan on this i7 SP3...haha... Not gonna lie - fan was embarrassing today. Sitting in conference room with OneNote up and everyone hears this white noise and i'm just like "yeah, it's a feature. keeps you awake during long meetings by coming on from time to time and annoying the crap out of...

Do you see having more than one charger a waste of money?

I had to think about it for a bit - I had 2 with my SP2. One that was plugged in full time on my desk and another that was in my bag. Problem I had was I would forget to put it back in my bag sometimes. So since I've upgraded to the SP3, I now have the dock full time on my desk, and 2...

    Core I5 or Core I7 SP3?

I think it's a combination of usage habits (I switched to IE from Chrome and am running cool more often than not now), different but improved ligher and slimmer build casing, and the i7 you would think does get hotter than the i5. My SP2 I could push really really hard before the fans even...

Solved Screen blinks momentarily plugging in power supply

Whenever I plug in or unplug my power supply for my SP3 the screen goes black momentarily and comes back. I would imagine it's changing some kind of screen setting - but my SP2 did not do this and it's slightly annoying. Can someone tell me if this is normal or there's a power setting I can...

    Core I5 or Core I7 SP3?

Just got the i7/512 (wanted the storage). On the fence returning it for the i5 - the i7 does run hot a lot. Not sure it's that much faster than an i5 at all (due to heat throttling). I have been using it a ton past few days trying to get a gauge on why it runs hot and a lot of it does come...

    NET 4.5.2

I guess go back to add/remove programs and you will have the option to look at installed windows updates- not just programs installed. i would look to see if the latest .net you installed is there and remove it. I don't know how well removing .net 4.5 overall will work out.

    NET 4.5.2

Why are you trying to remove? In some cases it'll remove other things that you actually want. Is it not working, are you trying to downgrade (shouldn't be necessary)? It's not something you'll see in Programs - it's a built-in feature for Windows. So you could try to use powershell command...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

So who did the upgrade (not clean install) of WP10 - did it work out OK? I've got my adobe apps installed, office, 3rd party stuff, etc. - and I thought I read for the most part it's an in-place upgrade. Just picked up the Pro 3 this week - everything configured, etc. that I need. I was...

Windows 10 Preview on Surface Pro 3

This is making it's way around other tech sites too. It's most likely a bug. Lots of people are starting to see it after installing KB3035129.

    OFFICIAL I Now Have a Surface Pro 3 i7

And...overheating issues last night (thermometer image on screen) while setting things up, installing updates. Literally had to get a desk fan onto the SP3 for a bit to get through all the updates. lol. Now...after I did get through the updates it's been 10x better using it today. I thought...
