So, you're playing them in Edge. That's expected to work, but we can't go full screen in Edge which defeats the purpose of viewing UHD video. What about in a media player such as WMP, MPC, etc.

Yup. MPC HC took over media duties for weird file types when VLC couldn't do 4k a while back. Plays pretty much anything thrown at it. Haven't switched back since VLC updated. Both should work great for you.
