I would do a fresh start. Download the image from the Microsoft website and get that taken care of. As a rule of thumb for laptops, I always do a fresh install for anyone who is getting a new device. It usually works a lot better.

I also have the flicker issue. It happens sometimes, not always. I am now on 0%, 20% and 25%, and it's not present. But many times (even at suggested level when auto brightness is on) the screen will go very dim and flicker! So... I don't think it's something you can just say "0% and let's see"
