Surface Pro 2017 Benchmarks (and Anomalies)

Unfortunately, I did not have HWmonitor running at the time of the bench. Maybe PCMark's info would suffice? The Max temp I get is 90 degrees Celsius and during the rendering, I can sustain the temps from 86-90 degrees so no thermal throttling whatsoever. CPU frequency decreases a lot though as...

Surface Pro 2017 Benchmarks (and Anomalies)

Just updated my PC Mark 10 score with all programs I have installed, Spotify, Tidal, Cyberlink Media stuff, work related programs, Steam with CS:GO, rar extractor, plus a whole lots of apps from Windows store since the last benchmark, it's still right at the ballpark! Still over 4000 scores with...

Microsoft to announce new Surface Products on October 31st

If that comes with the 8th gen chips, that's a winner. If it's 7th gen, I'll pass

Surface Pro 2017 Benchmarks (and Anomalies)

^ Back then I only had basic apps like office and store apps and just wanted to see how this performs. You'll probably get the same score if you had just clean installed Windows. Now I have so much more programs installed and a bunch of Windows updates have gone by so I do think mine will score...

Surface Pro 2017 Benchmarks (and Anomalies)

All these benchmarks and no PCMark 10 result, Here's mine way back when I received my SP: I scored 4 120 in PCMark 10

CPU throttling on the i5 and i7 versions

^ I managed to keep the thermals thus no throttling ONLY on a 65 degree AC'd room. Otherwise, it won't be able to keep that 26 W heat out of the chassis even with the fans running.

New Surface Pro in SP3 Docking Station

That adapter thing is just marketing to promote the new dock. The SP fits nicely with SP3

    Power adapter heat

Nope, I'd exchange it. Mine is just warm when doing intensive tasks while charging

    Noisy processor!

^ You seriously have a not so good lucks with Surface Pro. Mine has zero issues of that even when the CPU is stressed to max 4.0 GHz (i7 model). No backbleed on mine and WiFi is super fast:

CPU throttling on the i5 and i7 versions

No throttling here. What I'm afraid of is the core temp which crept up to 97 degrees Celsius on mine consuming about 25-26W package power per HWInfo32 if I'm gaming.

    SP4 i5 vs. SP5 m3 (both 4GB)

If you can get the SP4 i5/8GB/256 for the price of the new SP i5/4GB, that's a good deal. Only difference between 7th and 6th gen is the faster GHz and the updated hardware decoding for 10-bit HVEC codec

No more throttling for Surface Pro 3 :)

And experience thermal shutdown when the die reached above 100 Celsius seems to be better way too

    Wi-Fi issue in hotel

Update your WiFi drivers to the latest version

No more throttling for Surface Pro 3 :)

You have to use the USB fan if you need to keep the TDP between 20-25 watts

Not nearly making battery life (+ slow performance)

^ When I had my SP. Nope, it was NEVER sluggish at all. I didn't feel that it's updating stuff on the background. I'm even impressed with the i7 chip as it likes to go max frequency to load my programs much faster than my SP3 and previous laptops As for lags, it's primarily these two processes...

Not nearly making battery life (+ slow performance)

Something is wrong on your surface. I use all Bluetooth devices for my peripherals (Surface mouse, Surface keyboard and Surface pen) and never I had problems with delay and performance whatsoever

Surface Pro (2017) as desktop replacement?

If you're near a micrsoft store, that's an easy thing to do. To me, I could've gone with the i5, but that 4.0 GHz on a Surface device which I verified to the CPU-Z database is nice to have lol.

Surface Pro (2017) as desktop replacement?

I think they're referring to SSD speeds. At least the 2.5x faster stands at that category CPU wise, it's about 1.66x faster on geekbench compared to my i5 SP3 Microsoft Corporation Surface Pro 3 vs Microsoft Corporation Surface Pro - Geekbench Browser

Surface Pro (2017) as desktop replacement?

IMO, I don't notice any difference in my older SP3 with 1.7 GHz 4th gen i5 and my current SP 2.5 GHz 7th gen i7 in web browsing, word processing, outlook and basic excel. If I'm a programmer, maybe there's a noticeable difference with Visual Studio, C++, autodesk, etc. I upgraded to the i7 SP...

Surface Pro (2017) as desktop replacement?

@wpcoe If you want 2 4K monitors at 60 Hz, you need the dock. If you're OK with 30Hz on both 4K monitors, you won't need the dock if your monitors support display port daisy chain. Unless you are converting videos using CPU alone or doing CPU heavy tasks, there will be no difference in...
