Does Surface 2 (RT) support VDI?

Here's a link to a question with some links and so forth that might help you : VMWare VDI driver error (virtual desktop) with windows RT - Microsoft Community Based on reading that I suspect that the RT/2 isn't the right stuff at the moment, though the Pro/Pro2 should be.

No availabilty because of popularity or problems

I think it all ties in to the relatively slow uptake on Windows 8/8.1 itself. IOW, why buy a machine based on an OS that isn't all that popular? Possibly when 8.2 or 9 comes out with the rumored change to make the desktop the default on startup there might be some change in how the market...

    Type Cover 2 died :(

I powered the Surface down first, don't know if that is required. then held the vol up and pressed the power switch and then released when the 'Surface' logo showed up. Took me into BIOS and I just exited from that for a full reboot. Didn't make any changes and all was good. Hope that helps.

    Type Cover 2 died :(

Interesting... Got the replacement Type Cover 2 yesterday, attached it and it wouldn't work either. Did a power switch/vol up reset and then it did. Then reattached the old one and it worked too. I could swear I tried that reset before I asked for the replacement. Oh well, glad it is now...

    wrong serial number?

Hmmm.... This brings a question to mind. Don't the warranty replacements get automagically registered when MS ships them and de-register the item they replaced? It would seem to make sense.

    Kindle eReader?

the Nook app works fine as far as I can tell. But I think it is only for ebooks from B&N.

New Surface Pro Owner Experience So Far...

To the OP, sounds like you got a buggy SP1. I got mine a couple weeks ago and have had no problems with it other than the Touch Cover 2 not being recognized today. Otherwise it is all I thought it would be and is making me think about shuffling back to Windows again. I've been in a Mac rut...

    Type Cover 2 died :(

I don't use it much, but today I needed it to respond in a forum and the onscreen keyboard would just pop up and go away no matter what I did. Connected the TC2, no mouse indication, no keyboard response though the backlight came on just fine. Looked in Device Manager and it doesn't show...

Transfer Notes from Ipad to Surface Pro 2

Here's a link to a short discussion about that: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20231106#20231106 I've not had the need so I don't know if this works or not.

Bluetooth offered to pair with AppleTV

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't and still can't figure out why it would want to pair as I'm not aware of anything that doing that would accomplish. IOW, what is the pairing supposed to allow? I think you'll like the Airport Express. I've used previous models of them in the past and always...

Bluetooth offered to pair with AppleTV

Since I don't have any use for bluetooth on my Surface Pro, I went to settings to turn it off and it showed the AppleTV and offered to pair to it. Why? Is there something that I'm missing that a bluetooth pairing would do?

I'M DONE with my Surface Pro 2 and Microsoft

Nice post, and good opinion. I'm primarily an Apple guy and was doing work with nothing but Apple gear and software for years. Not media stuff which the Apple gear all excels at, but the more mundane business support stuff. I can do the same with Windows or Linux. It isn't brain surgery...

speed of wifi is slow all of a sudden?

With the Airport Express you can configure it to be an extender or as a full router. It has some user count limits but I'm not sure exactly what the count is. It is quite flexible to configure it in different ways. I have the Airport Extreme, well actually the Time Capsule which is an Extreme...

    Original Type Cover Better

I'm totally underwhelmed by the trackpad on the Type Cover 2. Way too small and 'draggy' because of the covering. I use a Logitech T650(?) Win 8 trackpad instead, but would like that better if I could figger out how to disable the Cover's trackpad.

Should I buy a 1gen Surface Pro or go for SP2?

I agree. The Pro 2 is a little faster, has longer battery life and the tilt base is a bit better. None of that adds up to $300 more to me! :) My uses are as light as yours and I find the first Pro is much more than adequate for my use.

    Keyboard no worky! Type 2

while that would be a great way to test, with all too many brick-and-mortar chains not having any store stock at all of the Covers, might be difficult to accomplish.

    Reader

The Surfaces are all active screens, so yes they have backlighting. Easy to read on except in full sunlight imo. There are a number of reader apps for use also. I don't use mine for that since I think the 10" size is a bit big for reading with, others might disagree though.

    Surface RT and Splashtop

While I have the Surface Pro, I would think you could remote in with the Remote Desktop client from MS. On your RT/2 do a search for allow remote access and tell it to allow for it. That assumes the option is there. You'll need to know the IP of the Surface.

New surface pro 64gb user, comparison to asus t100

I've got both. A Surface Pro w/128Gb and the ASUS T100 w/64Gb. I gave the Asus to my son as he won't do anything heavy duty with it. And that is where the differences lie. The T100 is superb! Cheap at $349/379 depending on which model you get, it still works very fast. But that is doing...
