A year of issues - a happy ending

I am happy to hear that things have worked out for you. I was wondering if you could elaborate on what avenues you took to finally get a refund. I tried to pursue a refund during my last interaction with the Surface Care Team, but that seemed like a non starter. I too have been through...

    Poll What would you do?

Return it for a refund and buy a new one (if you still want an SP3). You will only receive refurbished units otherwise. If problems arise during the return period, do not even bother with MS support (perhaps there should be a sticky advising this).

    new intel driver

Don't run the installer. Download the .zip file, extract it, and update the driver from the device manager. http://lifeisabug.com/installing-latest-intel-hd-graphics-driver-microsoft-surface-pro-pro-2-pro-3/

    USB speed and possible issues?

Well that explains it. Read and write speeds can be dramatically different (with the read speed being faster). Copying to the drive from the SP3 was considerably slower since your drive likely has poor write performance. It is unlikely that there is anything wrong with your SP3's USB port...

Quickest 128GIG Micro SD card options

While advertised speed are often exaggerated, I have been using the Samsung cards in my SP2 and they perform very close to their rated speeds. Although for just playing media, a fast card is not required. I have some applications installed on mine, so the extra speed is welcome.

    Embarassing

I never shut down. All my application remain loaded and I can immediately pick up where I left off.

Poll Returned SP3: received new or refurb unit?

Unless it arrives in original retail packaging, it is a refurbished unit.

How do I know if my pen has enough battery?

The ideal solution would be for the pen to "dock" with the SP3 where the pen would be charged automatically.

File sharing between SP3 and Macbook pro

There's always good old fashioned Windows file sharing... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1627 http://www.computerworld.com/article/2476301/mac-os-x/os-x-sharing-files-between-windows-and-mac.html

    Run the installer "as administrator".

    Random reboot and lock up

Welcome to refurbished roulette... If you plan on shipping back the replacement, it is advisable that you call support and inform them of that or they may charge your credit card when they don't receive an Sp3 with serial number of your current device.

    Solved Noisy kickstand

Best bet is to return it for a refund and then repurchase new. No reason to deal MS support for a machine that is only 11 days old.

    SP3 i7 runs worse than SP2 i5

Silly rabbit... The SP3 is not for games...;) Probably not..:(

    Printer

Same here. I was rather surprised when my networked HP Officejet automagically first showed up on my SP1 without any intervention on my part. No need to install the overly bloated HP software. One of there very few pleasant surprises of Windows 8. I suppose it depends on the printer, but the...

4GB is fine... 4k not so much...;)

    Well, there's your problem...;)

my dream surface pro (for future design)

That is the hope, but the proof will be in the pudding Hells to the no! This would likely necessitate an entirely passive cooling solution, meaning more hobbled CPU performance. Do you really think that a couple millimeters is worth a severely hobbled CPU.. "Let us redefine progress to mean...

    XBOX Video pause-restart issue

This is due to a recent update to the XBox video app. There used to be a resume option, but it was removed. If you launch the video from within the app, it will remember where it stopped, but you still have navigate back to the specific video from within the app.
