Win 8 Progress bar in my Computer

I'm sure this is a dumb question but when I open my computer, I see my drives but the "address" bar turns into a progress bar and fills up with green over the course of a few seconds. What is the computer doing? I thought it might be related to icons vs thumbnails but thumbnails off had no effect.

In my experience it only does that when it's searching a removable drive. Do you something like that connected?

Nothing connected. I do have a micro SD card installed but the icon for it comes up quickly along with my c drive...long before the progress bar is done.

I do have two mapped network drives that are not available...but they show up immediately with the X on them. Maybe the progress is that it's trying to reconnect? That's probably what it is. Thanks!
