Which pen

I assume only the standard pen would be suitable, although there does to appear to be some good third party pens available at a more competitive price.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Any pen but not the expensive surface pro pen. The left and right buttons near the tip of the pen do not work. Microsoft is avoiding any guidance

Both the original pen (SP3) and the newer one with a single button (sp4 onwards) work absolutely great across my surface devices.
