SP3, SP4 keyboard, W10, Windows Defender is the only AV, no tricky software

My one-and-only USB port provides power, but does not "see" common USB devices (external drive, digital microscope, etc.). Those devices work properly on another computer. I really need that digital microscope, which is claimed to be Windows 10 compatible!

Control Panel > Device Manager produces only one yellow exclamation point: UTAX WIA Class Driver. No update is available.

I wiggled the connector.
I examined the interior of the female USB port (with the digital microscope connected to another computer) and see nothing unusual.

Your devices might draw more power than 900ma. Try using a powered USB hub or USB Y cable Connected to a USB power port.

Deleted the UTAX WIA entry, restarted, found UTAX WIA missing. I deleted the software for a digital microscope (400mA total draw) and restarted. Reinstalled, and the device appears as USB20 Camera with a yellow exclamation point. It wants a driver, so I tried to find it online and on my machine. The vendor of the device will try to help.
