Usb compatibilty

Hi all

i just purchased an external cd drive so i can download cds into itunes.

I found out now its usb 2.0 and it connects , then unconnects. It wont work !

Do i need one with usb 3.0?

It's a power problem, the drive draws too much power. If you have a power supply for the drive you need to use it. other options are using a powered USB Hub or a USB Y cable and plugging on end into a USB power port like the one on the Surface Power brick or other USB power source.

Well I just tried plugging it into the USB on the charger and used the other USB port on the surface to connect it. At first it connected ok , stayed connected allowed me to open iTunes , started to import the cd....... then....... it says" unable to locate file .

Now it wont even recognise it. What a turd of a thing

I have a Samsung external drive for use with my Pro and it connects and is powered by USB no problem, I would say it's probably the drive that is the problem.

Jim , I bought a Samsung drive and that didn't work either. I actually bought a DVD drive by mistake , it kept connecting and then un connecting like this new one.

I wondered if it was a USB issue but it works ok with my external hard drive . I'm stumped with this one
