Surface went to recovery screen and KB will not enter letters

I have a Surface running RT and it rebooted while my daughter was using it. It went to recovery yor PC needs repair. I got the bit locker (all numeric) from the skydrive but when I enter it it says it is wrong. On the recovery screen it shows a Recovery key (alpha numeric) but the KB cover will not let me enter any letters. I hooked up a USB KB and again it only lets me enter numbers. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
