Surface Pro 3 pen top button working but not writing

I have an SP3 and I lost my old pen and am now using a friends pen. I can pair the pen and the SP3 and open onenote but once I do that I can't do anything else. I have tried replacing the battery, taking the tip out and putting it back, cold reset, and uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and nothing works.

Please help!
