Surface Pro 3 mini display port use knocks out audio

I just purchased two external monitor to tie into my Surface Pro 3, using the docking station port and the side port on the tablet, but when I do this, I no longer have sound from the tablet. If I detach the MDPs, the sound is back. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers already, but that did not help.

A little extra info . . . the sound remains fine if outputting to an RGB converter to the monitor, but no sound if outputting to an HDMI converter to the monitor.
