Surface pro 2 Type keypad Mapping issue

I bought a type keypad. Many keys have three signs. I can't find a way to use the third sign. E.g the second row second key has signs !,1 and +-. Shift and key gives me ! and just the key gives 1. Don't know how to use the third sign. That goes for the entire second row keys.

Also several keys are mapped to signs not shown on the key.

They keyboard was said to be QWERT French. I am using English only. Don't understand why signs shown on the key do not come up when used.

Is there a doc for the type cover?

Try ALT+Shift+key

Thanks for the response. It doed not work though. Once ALT is pressed all keys are not functional.
